Eat These 5 Fat Burning Foods

Try These 5 Foods That Burn Fat

A recent survey by Kelton Research on behalf of Nutrisystem reveals that more than 50% of American women and 25% of American men would take a summer without sex over gaining 10 pounds, and 25% said they would rather shed 10-20 pounds than get promoted at work. However, nearly half of the 1000+ people interviewed said that they chose not to diet, even though they knew they needed to lose weight.

“The fact of the matter is, America is obsessed with dieting and weight loss, but the majority of Americans aren’t eating healthier or getting thinner,” said Joe Redling, chairman and CEO of Nutrisystem, Inc.

Bottom line: Americans need to find a way to eat the foods they love and lose weight too. Here’s some super tasty fat loss foods that you can use to jumpstart your fat loss goals.

*It’s important to acknowledge that simply changing up the diet and introducing different foods can be a great way to minimize the risk of developing food sensitivities as well as stimulate metabolism. However, it is unreasonable to assume that simply eating certain foods, without an exercise regimen or being cognizant of caloric intake is going to stimulate weight loss.

1) Bison for fat burning

Bison is one of the highest quality proteins you can eat, aiding in burning fat and building lean muscle.  As a weight loss meat, Bison far surpasses beef with up to 35% more protein and less than half of the fat and cholesterol. That means you can eat less and still be satisfied. Additionally, Bison, as with any lean animal protein, has a thermogenic effect on the body, or uses more calories to digest than any other food. Bison is rich in amino acids and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), which is necessary for recovery from exercise and building and maintaining lean body mass. With much stigma surrounding red meat consumption, we can finally say that Bison is truly a healthy red meat.

2) Wild caught salmon with the skin is a healthy fat loss food

We all know how healthy salmon can be, as a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids What a lot of people don’t know is there are many important nutrients in the skin of most fish, and almost all skins are edible. Salmon skin, contains higher concentrations of these omega-3 fatty acids because the salmon’s fat is in the layer just beneath the skin, so when it is cooked with the skin on, the skin soaks up these (healthy) fats. These fats are important in the body to provide fuel for the brain, structure for our cells, nerves and joints, and support for fat burning hormone production.  Not only is salmon skin a very rich source of nutrients, but it tastes fantastic too – just make sure to find wild caught salmon, as any farmed salmon will have less omega-3’s and more pollutants that can be harmful to your health.

3) Broccoli for a fibrous dose of fat burning

An important part of fat loss is having the ability to effectively detoxify the body from environmental pollutants. Broccoli is rich in Sulforaphane, a compound that exhibits anticancer, anti-diabetic, and antimicrobial properties and is necessary for ridding the body from harmful environmental estrogens. Additionally, some would have you believe that acidic foods create inflammation in the body and therefore are the root of all disease. Should this be the case, then vegetables like broccoli are the panacea of our acidic environment. Broccoli is alkalinizing, which is beneficial to help counterbalance the acidic load we get from grains, dairy and meat.  Eating lots of vegetables like broccoli helps buffer the acid load in our body to keep from breaking down muscle and bone. Adding a large helping of nutrient rich vegetables at meals is a great way to balance the protein and grains and add healthy bulk from fiber.

4) Coconut Oil is a great fat to use for weight loss

Coconut oil has been called the “healthiest dietary oil on earth”. If you’re not using coconut oil for your daily cooking and body care needs, you’re missing out on one of nature’s most amazing health and fat loss products. Once mistakenly thought to be bad because of its saturated fat content, coconut oil is now known to contain a unique form of saturated fat that actually helps prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries. The saturated fat in coconut oil is unlike the fat found in meat or other vegetables fats. It is identical to a special group of fats found in human breast milk, which have been shown to improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. These fats derived from coconut oil, are now routinely used in hospital IV formulations and commercial baby formulas. They’re also used in sports drinks to boost energy and enhance athletic performance. Because coconut oil is quickly and easily digested in the body, it is even more thermogeneic (calorie-burning) than many animal proteins.

5) Green Tea/Coffee helps stimulate weight loss

While these technically aren’t foods, they are certainly worth mentioning in regards to their fat burning benefits. According to renowned strength coach Charles Poliquin, “Coffee is the only bitter herb and source of anti-oxidants that most modern humans consume. Bitter herbs are crucial to optimize liver detoxification. That is why people who drink coffee tend to live 5 years longer than people who abstain from it.”

Green tea has more health benefits than can be mentioned, having been shown to help stabilize blood sugar and stimulate metabolism, both necessary to build lean muscle mass and burn body fat. Drinking green tea can actually improve health, as green tea extract, derived from green tea leaves, contains high levels of EGCG, a compound that may play a role in disease prevention, including cancer and diabetes.

Another powerful fat loss benefit from coffee and green tea consumption is for its’ caffeine. Consumed prior to a strength-training workout, caffeine has the ability to act as an ergogenic aid, or improve one’s ability to maintain strength and intensity during the workout. However, caffeine has very individualized effects and is not good for everyone, nor should it be consumed too late in the day, as it can effect quality sleep necessary for muscle growth and repair and healthy fat burning.

Why not be realistic and eat healthier fat-burning foods than subject yourself to the miserable dieting regimen that so many American’s attempt and fail. Eating healthy real food will always be the best way to ensure permanent fat loss for the long-term. Eat the aforementioned super foods and find out for yourself.
