Nutrition Presentation at NSCA SW Regional Conference on 11/13/10

Ben Brown, MS, CSCS, Nutritionist and Owner of Body Systems Healing & Performance was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak at the National Strength and Conditioning Southwest Regional Conference yesterday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, AZ.

There were a wide array of topics presented, from power and speed development, periodization in program design, to advanced med. ball training. Ben presented on “Nutritional Strategies for Improved Athletic Performance”, focusing on:
1) Regulating blood sugar levels and stress by minimizing the consumption of grains in the diet
2) Improving digestive system function through the use of a “whole foods” diet plan

The emphasis of the presentation was on the implementation of 6 rules as they pertain to how to eat for success:

1) Eat every 2-4 hours
2) Eat lean, complete protein with each feeding opportunity
3) Eat vegetables with each feeding opportunity
4) For fat loss, eat “other” carbohydrates only after exercise – i.e, non-gluten containing grains, starchy vegetables and fruit
5) Eat healthy fats daily
6) Rotate your foods daily to avoid developing food sensitivities

Through the implementation of the 6 rules, athletic performance and weight management goals can be much more attainable.

Body Systems would like to thank Brent Alvar, Eric Reed, the NSCA, and Chandler-Gilbert Community College for the opportunity to present and will hope to be invited back to speak next year!
